MUSICIAN POPSTAR ICON

JIMI HENDRIX
No other musician has influenced so many artists of all genres, from rock and blues to hip hop and jazz, with his songs, guitar playing, improvisations, and broad horizons as Jimi Hendrix. Even more than half a century after his untimely death on September 18, 1970, Hendrix remains an icon of pop music, with fans who otherwise listen to rock, blues, metal, funk, soul, or jazz. Hendrix was a boundary-breaker and a trailblazer: he developed the electric guitar and took it to a new level, made studio technology his instrument, and incorporated all the influences that shaped him during his short life into his compositions and recordings.
MUSICIAN POPSTAR ICON
,Jimi Hendrix – Musician, Popstar, Icon‘ is a journey through the music of James Marshall Hendrix, through his studio albums and live performances, through videos, books, magazines, and websites, but also through Jimi’s collection of instruments—guitars, amplifiers, effects devices—through his musical preferences, and even through the plans, dreams, and ideas that his early death prevented him from realizing. A book about music – with the best soundtrack in the guitar world.

JIMI PERSPECTIVES
The author begins by briefly recounting his first encounter with the music of Jimi Hendrix in the early 1970s. This is followed by a biography of the artist, then a look at his two most important companions, drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding. And then it’s on to the music – the legendary albums that were released during Hendrix’s lifetime.
After an overview of guitars, amps, sounds, and studios, and an introduction to important aspects of Jimi Hendrix’s playing technique, the book examines various influences on his music: Blues, R&B, Jazz, British Rock, American Avant-garde… It also sheds light on Jimi’s important time as a sideman and tour guitarist.
Interview excerpts from musicians and contemporary witnesses from various genres reveal who Hendrix himself influenced and inspired to great achievements: Rock and Blues greats such as Robin Trower, Carlos Santana, Steve Lukather, Michael Landau, Innes Sibun, Joe Satriani, Albert Collins, Richie Sambora, Billy Corgan, Reeves Gabrels, Jack Bruce, Uli Jon Roth and Jeff Beck have their say, but also Jazz and Crossover artists such as Mike Stern, Nguyên Lê, Christy Doran, Peter Wölpl, Andreas Willers, Thomas Blug, Tobias Hoffmann, Marcus Deml, Peter Bursch, Hellmut Hattler and Caspar Brötzmann.
Finally, the extensive systematic section of this book deals with the music and media that Hendrix left behind – with a comprehensive, highly detailed discography, an overview of official videos and YouTube material, Tribute Albums that are worth listening to and/or original, as well as a very complete bibliography with some recommended reading, including older standard reference works about the musician.
